Manasota Adventist Community Services [MACS] announces an immediate opening for Financial Officer.  MACS is a charitable organization with a $40,000 annual budget that is owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Florida. MACS has been in existence since January, 2010 and continues to operate a mobile soup kitchen weekly, two service centers (Bradenton & Venice), health and nutrition classes, and provides services and training in the areas of disaster response and preparedness. MACS operates entirely with a volunteer staff.


Compensation: This is a volunteer position. 

App. 10 hours/month, with possible additional hours required around the end of each quarter and end of fiscal year. Schedule has some flexibility.

Organizational Structure: The Financial Officer is appointed by the Board of Directors and reports to the Executive Director.

  • Self motivated individual who is dedicated and passionate about helping others
  • Bachelors Degree in Business or related field
  • CPA or Senior Accountant Experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP is preferred
  • Experience (or knowledge) working with non-profits is helpful.
  • Detail oriented 
  • Ability to communicate and work with volunteers effectively and efficiently
  • Experience working with QuickBooks (pulling quarterly reports), or proficient computer skills and the willingness to learn QuickBooks

  • Review the Financials regularly (no less than quarterly)
  • Generate and review Statement of Income & Expense (Profit & Loss Statements) and Statements of Financial Position and YTD Budget Reports.
  • Provide leadership and recommendations in generating an annual budget. Oversee the implementation of the annual budget and provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Finance Committee.
  • Prepare reports for quarterly board meetings and annual Constituency Meetings and present the reports if requested by the Executive Director
  • Monitor cash reserves and investments
  • Oversee implementation of financial policies & procedures
  • Attend Finance Committee meetings
  • Supervise staff in the Finance Dept. (i.e. Treasurer, volunteer Bookkeeper(s), etc)
  • Insure that annual audits are conducted in accordance with state and federal laws, and are in compliance with the governing bylaws of MACS.
